The start of a new year is always the ideal time to reassess your personal brand and make some changes. However, you don’t have to wait until a brand new year to make changes or do a full pivot in your brand. Your personal brand is essential because tells people what makes you unique and why they should do business with you.
A lot can change in a year or even a few months. To make sure that your brand is still distinct, memorable, and that you’re operating in your purpose, check out these five steps you can take to give your a minor (or major) refresh and operate in your purpose.
The first step is to get honest about how much you have achieved over the year. How many of your goals have you achieved and have any of them changed? Re-evaluate where you want to be in the next year (or five years). From there, map out the steps that need to be taken to achieve those revised goals. Keep your strengths in mind when revising or setting your goals to make them reasonable and achievable.
Often, when we set new goals, we realize we need to upskill in order to achieve them. In the end, regardless of your reasons for wanting to upskill, there is no way it won’t benefit you. If you have limited time and budget available, focus on upskilling in areas that offer the most short-term benefits first. From there, you can fit in additional learning and upskilling that will benefit you over the long term.
One of the best ways to refresh your personal brand is to connect with like-minded individuals. This could be in the form of a mentor or networking groups in your area. Connecting with other professionals opens the door to new opportunities and can inspire you to make additional and necessary changes to your personal brand.
Unsure about whether the changes you are considering make sense? Ask for feedback from other professionals you trust. Better yet, ask a more experienced professional in your industry for honest feedback about your goals and whether they feel you are taking the right approach. Just remember to use discretion when receiving feedback – you don’t need to take and implement every bit of feedback you receive.
Personal brands are not just about the work you do and the clients you help, it’s also about you as a person. To hone your personal brand, it’s important to find a good balance between work and other interests outside of work. Plus, when it comes to creating your brand story, it’s important to include your passions and interests if you want to create a more personalized story.
By starting with these five steps, you can re-evaluate and refresh your brand from a firmer, more structured foundation, ensuring you get closer to achieving each of your goals and operating in your purpose. Need help gaining clarity in your brand?
